MLM Solution #1 - Your REAL business

Big Picture, Mindset No Comments »

Cheering PeopleWhat really is “Your Own Business” in MLM?

“Your business is what you have left if your company goes out of business.”

Your business is the RELATIONSHIPS and CONTACTS you have, regardless of company affiliation. These are the things you keep no matter what MLM you join!

A business has assets. Your main asset is your database of personal contacts. To truly build up “your own business,” you need to build this asset, the people you know, as much as you can.

Some business people have databases of hundreds, thousands, even millions of contacts. They can join a company, let all their contacts know about it, and often experience quick success. It’s not uncommon for people with large lists to join a company and within a few weeks they’ll have sponsored 10, 50, sometimes hundreds of people.

I often wonder . . .

If this business is about building up your contact database, then why is so little attention focused on it?

Possible Answers:

* There’s no money in simply building up your contacts

* You have nothing to offer people other than your current program

* You’ve been told you can succeed by just signing up a few people (which is possible, but not common)

* You don’t know what to say when trying to build a list

* You don’t know how to go about adding people to your list

* You’ve never been taught you need to do this

* You don’t have a good way to communicate regularly with many people

I’m sure you can think of other reasons. But now – the answer:

What I like to call: CONTACT MARKETING

I’m sure you are beginning to grasp the importance of building up your contact database, and the reasons that may have hindered you in the past. In upcoming posts, we’ll look at ways and things you can do to begin focusing on your #1 business asset - your contact list!

MLM Problem #4 - The “SUPER PERSON” syndrome

Big Picture, Mindset No Comments »

Super Person SyndromeDo you ever feel like the only way to make money in MLM is to become a “SUPER PERSON?” Yeah… like a SUPER-HERO. To succeed in MLM you’re sometimes presented with a huge laundry list of needed skills:

* Knowledgeable

* Friendly

* Good communicator

* Adored leader

* Excellent phone skills

* Has a large and growing network

* Ability to overcome fear

* Lead with action

* Drive sales

* Instill motivation

The list goes on and on. And you become fatigued just thinking about it!

Typically, MLM has been presented as a personal development pathway. Some mentors teach that you have to develop a huge array of skills to really become successful at it. It’s a coincidence, of course, that they usually offer seminars and training packages “guaranteed to make you successful.”

The problem is that it takes a long time to develop into that kind of successful person – if it’s even possible at all. In reality, not everyone can acquire all those varied skillsets. And even those who could are not always able to dedicate that kind of time, effort and money to get there. The “carrot” held out before them is too far out of reach.

“Just one more program, one more seminar, one more CD.” Eventually, “one more” becomes “one too many.”

Instead people need to learn how to make a decent commissions along the way without having to become a “Super Person” first… it’s like getting a bite out of the “carrot.” You will be motivated to continue at your own pace, learning the skills that you choose, when you want to learn them.

You have to have a way to measure small incremental results, and make money retailing products (before people make a large monthly commitment). FAR too often, the only measuring stick people use in MLM is how many they’ve signed up in their $100+/month program. That’s a huge leap for a lot of people, and greatly reduces visible results.

We’ll show you how you can move towards measurable results and income in upcoming posts.

MLM Problem #3 - ”Strict Government Regulations”

Big Picture, Mindset No Comments »

Uncle Sam WatchingOne of the most intriguing of our governmental agencies here in the United States is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some people swear by it… but many network marketers swear at it!

“Has it been approved by the FDA?” is a common concern for prospects of health products. And, of course, the most common answer we give them is, “No. This is not a drug but a food supplement. It doesn’t need approval.”

Many MLMers can’t understand why the FDA is so strongly against “our powerful natural remedies.” And why they have to be so careful about making claims and giving testimonials about our “healing discoveries?”

It’s true—an adverse FDA ruling has slowed down—sometimes to the point of shutting down—some MLM health companies. However, after much research on the FDA and what they’re mandated to do, I conclude the fault is generally on the side of the promoters. Sure, the FDA has made mistakes. But during the past 100-plus years, it has protected us from mishaps and the greed or ignorance of people out to make a buck at the expense of our safety.

For instance, in 1941 nearly 300 people died due to the distribution of sulfathiazole tablets tainted with the sedative Phenobarbital. This incident led the FDA to revise manufacturing and quality control standards, later to be called “good manufacturing practices (GMPs).”

What if there wasn’t a governmental agency to oversee and control the production and distribution of drugs, foods –- and, yes, food supplements? We might just have many more cases like the above!

So how is the FDA a “possible danger” to your MLM business? Because we cannot legally make curative claims for any product that has not met the FDA’s rigid standards. Unfortunately, MLM promoters can be so enthusiastic about their products that they attract investigation. Erroneous product claims can attract what we consider “negative press,” even lawsuits. And everybody in the company can watch their sales and commissions plummet!

If you’re not in a health company, then there are other regulatory bodies like the FTC, the District and State Attorneys, etc. Other countries have their own governmental regulatory agencies… some even more anti-natural supplements than the FDA in America.

Bottom line… if your company has not had to deal with government regulations yet, then it’s probably a newer company or still a small company. Likely, when it gets large enough, one or more regulatory agencies will come knocking.

Some companies never fully recover from getting “hit” by these investigations. Others survive just fine but might lose some of their excitement and growth.

Many MLMers get so used to “selling by excitement” that they can’t limit themselves to acceptable facts. So, they drop out of challenged companies to look elsewhere, perhaps a new start-up company that hasn’t yet succumbed to FDA pressure. And the cycle continues.

You need to build a business with this knowledge in mind!

Are you prepared for what might happen should a government agency severely challenge your MLM company? Will you lose your entire downline if the company goes under? We’ll soon cover how to plan for and limit any negative effects from such situations!

MLM Problem #2 - Company Failures

Big Picture, Mindset 1 Comment »

MLM FailureIt’s sad. It’s common. Many new MLM companies go out of business. And even some that have been around for 10 or 20 years can close down. There are many causes: growing too fast, getting hit by governmental agencies, or just dying from attrition. Far too often in MLM, companies shut their doors or change into a different form and there’s no longer a place for you and your group.

Perhaps your company might be almost immune from failure. Even then, it’s good to approach your financial future more solidly. Perhaps diversity? We do that in investments, makes sense to do it in our own business.

Here’s the point… as much as you LOVE and TRUST your current company, you will have more security if you build your business with the possibility of eventually having to switch. That principle will give you a more solid sense of independence and personal power.

It’s like working for any boss. If you have the potential of other good jobs waiting for you, then you’re likely to stand up to any unfairness. It’s remembering that YOU are your own business, even if you work for a paycheck.

How would you develop the power of that attitude? What should you be doing now to get ready for any eventuality? We’ll explore this concept in great depth soon… but the key here is to attract people to YOU FIRST, instead of a company or product. It’s “You Marketing”. Become the attractive leader people want to follow, and the company is less relevant.

MLM Problem #1 - Your “OWN” Business

Big Picture, Mindset No Comments »

Bad Business MLMThe MLM business model has many strengths going for it. Robert Kiyosaki, famous author of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad series, wrote a book specifically about the many benefits of Network Marketing OTHER than making money.

However, the typical way that MLM is taught, practiced and acted upon creates a lot of problems. It has so many pitfalls that very few achieve what they desired to accomplish. I want to cover a few of the biggest problems in my “MLM Problems” series.

Problem #1
Owning “Your Own Business”

With MLM, you do not truly have your own business. What? But—but—but—

Hear me out. In MLM, you create a network of buyers for a company. In turn, the company pays you commissions based upon the amount of sales you generate through your network. You are an independent contractor –-a salesperson, really.

Q: Why is your distributor relationship with the company not your own business?
A: Because the company holds the keys to everything!

The company can tell you NOT to do certain things, NOT to market in certain ways, NOT to say certain things. And if you don’t comply, they can threaten to terminate your distributorship. If they indeed terminate your distributorship, who gets to keep your customers and your downline? The company!

Can you take legal action?

I’ve seen some MLMers do that—and mostly lose. They don’t have the money to stick it out—and often they don’t have the legal rights either. Just read your policies and procedures!

Most standard businesses have assets – contracts, inventory, buildings, customers, good-will, etc. In network marketing, you might think your biggest asset is your downline. Sorry — the company lays claim to that. But don’t be discouraged. There is a way for you to build on the “power” of that downline — even if you have no “legal rights” to it. We’ll get into that soon enough.

Stay tuned for more of this analysis… and of course, some solutions to these very same problems!

UFirst Money Merge Account - Deal or No Deal?

UFirst - Money Merge Account

I recently came upon a new product in the marketplace called a “Money Merge Account” being promoted by agents of UFirst bank. I decided to investigate and see if this was a good program or something to avoid.

Let’s get some things straight right up-front, and then I will go into a more detailed analysis:

Fact 1: This does have an MLM element, as UFirst pays commissions to the direct salesperson as well as a few “levels” of qualified positions.

Fact 2: This is not a scam. UFirst offers a legitimate product, with legitimate banks and associations participating.

Fact 3: Just because it’s MLM doesn’t mean its bad, and just because its not a scam doesn’t mean its good. Let’s evaluate the “Money Merge Account” by the numbers and their conclusions alone.

Marketing with Integrity — or not?

Mindset 1 Comment »

Business Fingers CrossedI just had to state my peace on this subject because it really bothers me.

There are a number of big-name marketers who concentrate so much on making money, that they don’t actually care if the “little guy” gets something worthwhile with their purchase. I hate it. It’s all about the money to them…. when do they stop to look at the products they’re selling to see if its really worth it!

Case in point.. the Lawn Chair Millionaire program I just reviewed is practically worthless. Other than the opportunity to market the opportunity… their product is simply a list of three other programs that are high-risk.

Lawn Chair Millionaire - two inches from SCAM!

Reviews 5 Comments »

Lawn Chair Millionaire Logo

Okay, this one made me really mad. Within 5 minutes of being on the “inside” I felt like I’d been taken. Why the heck did I even get into it in the first place? Was the sales letter that good? Nope… I got involved because I thought it was offering USEFUL information, and it turned out completely worthless!

I’m a big purchaser of information products, because I love learning new things. The sales copy for Lawn Chair Millionaire made it sound like they had a VAULT of information full of ways to make more money. FAR FROM THE TRUTH! I’m going to detail for you what Lawn Chair Millionaire is really all about.

Finally somebody is telling the TRUTH, and NOT selling you with their affiliate link connected.

MyWorldPlus - great deal or SCAM?

Reviews 7 Comments »

MyWorldPlus logoNo, it’s not a scam… they are a legitimate business. HOWEVER… the question that SHOULD be asked is “Do they have a good product - and thus a good long-term opportunity?” On that issue, I have to give a resounding NO.

Basically you end up paying MyWolrdPlus $19.95 a month for “coupons” and savings that aren’t really that great. The worst part is they charge you $69.95 for the first month because of bogus setup & application fees. You know the fees are bogus because the majority of that fee goes directly to paying other promoters.

Reverse Funnel?

Big Picture 3 Comments »

Maybe you’ve heard this catchy term recently? I know its starting to die down, but at the peak I was getting at least 3 or 4 emails per day on a special “Reverse Funnel System” promising huge daily income. Amazingly they were letting you participate for a mere $3500 dollars… fancy that!

Okay, I might have some facts wrong… and if so, enlighten me. I didn’t actually buy into this system, so go ahead and set me straight if I’m way off. But let me share why I didn’t bother with this mess in the first place.
